Siargao Island is one of those places where you are instantly connected to your surroundings.
Maybe its the dense coconut groves providing the lush green backdrop making you feel closer to mother nature.
Maybe its the clear blue waters that invite you in everytime you catch a glimpse.
Maybe its the open road virtually void of traffic and cars (the local way to get around is by tricycle or motorcycle).
Maybe its the accommodations that aren't big hotel chains but smaller more intimate homes along the beach.
Maybe its the people that always seem to greet you with a smile and a warm welcome.
Or maybe its the island dogs that cuddle their way into your heart.
Whatever the reason, any visitor will fall in love with this island just like I did.
Island hopping tours in Siargao will take you to 3 islands:
Naked Island - a very small island with no trees. Just sand.
Daku Island - usually a lunch stop. Buy fish and food at the local market, bring it here, and they will cook it for you.
Guyam Island - another small island, but it has trees and is surrounded by beautiful rocky beaches.
Siargao is a top surfing destination. Cloud 9 beach hosts a number or surfing resorts, the boardwalk, and the Cloud 9 Cup competition.
For a non-surfer like myself, it's a beautiful spot to check out the local surf scenes, watch the waves, and visit the neughboring resorts.
No trip to Siragao is complete without exploring the backroads of the island.
Befriend the locals, get to know their stories, and ride your way inland to the rice fields and neighborhoods. Here you'll see what rural like in the Philippines is really like.
Siargao is not a developed destination and its best kept that way. Time moves slower and you feel at ease just being there.
It was definitely one of the places that truly felt like The Philippines to me — surrounded by nature, kind people, and good vibes.
This place is a treasure. If you ever plan to visit, make sure to respect the island, its people, and the culture.
